At Waypoint Psychological Services, we offer EMDR therapy as part of our trauma-informed approach to healing.
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a well-researched, evidence-based therapy that helps you process distressing memories and experiences so they no longer feel overwhelming or stuck. Our trained clinicians integrate EMDR into a supportive, collaborative therapy relationship—always moving at a pace that feels safe and grounded for you.
As a teaching practice, Waypoint offers EMDR through seasoned clinicians and provisionally licensed therapists working under expert supervision—bringing together clinical depth and current best practices in trauma treatment.
If you’re struggling with symptoms of PTSD, anxiety, or past trauma that continues to impact your life, EMDR can be a powerful tool to help you move forwa
EMDR or Eye Movement Desensitization Response is a trauma specific psychotherapy that helps you change the meaning of painful memories. A trained therapist guides you in recognizing and processing the unconscious underlying beliefs linked to the experiences. These beliefs are a result of how the brain has interpreted the experience and can show up in your patterns of thinking or trauma symptoms. In therapy, the memories are not re-experienced but observed and reprocessed at your own pace with the support of the therapist. The guided use of side-to-side eye movements or alternate sides of the body tapping, are like those Rapid Eye Movements that occur in deep sleep. These bi-lateral movements work toward revising the meaning of the memory, and new replacement beliefs accompany this process. The replacement belief(s) results in a powerful shift in emotion, and a revised memory of the event with reductions in distress and changes in patterned thoughts. The effects of these replacement beliefs are immediate, even surprising, and will give you a sense of relief. How you look at your trauma experiences after processing will result in a new, profoundly unusual way, leading to emotional freedom and healing.
